Improvement of Honey-peach Agrosystem
The Combined Agriculture-Landscape Circular System Based on Digital Technology
Project 3 "Improvement of Honey-peach Agrosystem" highlights the over 1,000-year-old Yangshan honey peach agricultural system in Wuxi. Challenges such as outdated farming methods, declining soil fertility, and diminished environmental appeal have emerged over time. This project proposes innovative strategies combining smart agriculture, ecological farming, natural landscape design, and improved living environments to address these issues. The project envisions an agri-tourism framework of "Nine Gardens, Three Scenic Spots, and Two Corridors", centered around a modern "Peach Culture" agricultural complex and wetland park. This design balances agriculture and tourism, benefiting both peach farmers and visitors. A new rotational ecosystem introduces shade-tolerant Chinese medicinal herbs like Ageratum houstonianum under peach trees in spring and summer to enrich soil, prevent waterlogging, and enhance aesthetics. Farmers use E-commerce live streaming to sell peaches, boosting income and reputation. In autumn and winter, free-range poultry beneath peach trees adds charm for visitors and enriches the ecosystem. Off-season care incorporates digital drip irrigation and soil improvement to prepare for the next cycle, enhancing sustainability and agricultural output.
The project also includes an integrated drone hub doubling as a control station and observation deck, alongside a peach culture education base housed in wooden structures to support education, tourism, and commerce. Longer-term plans leverage local wetlands, biodiversity, and geological landscapes for eco-tourism, promoting sustainable practices and cultural heritage. Features like rain gardens and ecological dry streams mitigate flooding during the plum rain season, enhancing resilience and creating multifunctional landscapes. This initiative harmonizes agriculture and tourism, improves local living conditions, and increases peach farmers’ incomes through eco-friendly practices. By integrating advanced technology, promoting green values, and preserving cultural traditions, the project creates a sustainable model of agricultural innovation, attracting global visitors while securing Yangshan’s legacy as a beacon of harmonious development between people, nature, and agriculture.
