I’m a Cat Living with You
Corrugated-paper Interactive Exhibition Space Construction Attempt

Project 4 "I’m a Cat Living with You" is a spatial installation built primarily with corrugated cardboard. The installation uses this material to create an interactive design or art piece, fostering positive engagement among the designer, users, and resulting creation. Located at the Xinzhuang Capus of Nanjing Forestry University, at the foot of Zijin Mountain, the campus is surrounded by lush greenery and abundant wildlife. Small animals, particularly cats, are a common sight on campus. After cataloging detailed information on over 100 campus cats, the project was themed "Traces of Campus Cats: A Day in the Life of Nanjing Forestry Cats." The installation was designed as an accessible, interactive space suitable for all ages, featuring playful elements for children and detailed displays.

The corrugated cardboard was utilized to create a relatively large, eye-catching structure, covering an area of about 30 square meters, with six interactive nodes for visitors. The installation design included a rectangular layout with modular features, such as a "modular cat house", a wooden grid "cat encyclopedia", and a cat figurine display wall. The structure was supported using honeycomb board legs, taut red brick lines, and other reinforcements. These elements created an Instagram-worthy small exhibition space for children and adults alike. The final design achieved an "enterable" miniature exhibition space, promoting meaningful interactions among campus cats, students, residents, and children. Organized visitor paths and activities were complemented by guidebooks, exhibition promotions, and interactive games, attracting 515 unique visits from people of various ages, including 38 children.
